Most of us know how hard it is to commit to a topic and start to write about it. I find myself struggling on deciding on the right topic for days. I think most writers find that they also have the same issue no matter what type of content they are writing. I wouldn’t necessarily call this writers block but maybe topic overload since your brain is all over the place. I mean original content does do wonders for your page’s SEO so it makes sense that we all want our writing to be unique or at least provide a different perspective then what’s already out there. Brainstorm a few fun topics, coming up with at least three to choose from. This may seem like a lot of research to do in order to make a simple choice but it doesn’t have to be. I have found that the best way to do this is setting aside a minimum of one night/day worth of research depending on what your topic is. This allows you the time to digest the information and formulate your own opinion on it instead of regurgitating what everyone else has said. Sometimes you will find that you own opinion may vary some from others which makes for unique content. However, this won’t always be the case and there might be times you agree with what everyone else is saying. You don’t have to completely jump on the bandwagon though since you still have the opportunity to offer your audience your own perspective on the situation.

So what do you do when you can’t even narrow down your topic choices and you don’t have a clue as to what to write about? In this case I find it helpful to start with Google News and search the internet until you find something interesting, relevant, and somewhat recent that you actually like and write about it. I know it sounds completely nuts but you sometimes come up with the some of your most read and liked content this way. This is because it will come up under relevant news if you plan your post publication at the right time. SEO wise, Google will love you and at the least, you will gain some new traffic to your site/post. I have had to do this on numerous occasions to basically get inspired when nothing specific was coming to me and some of the most inspiring yet raw writing came from this method. Not every topic is going to thrill you or inspire you but each one you choose is equally as important as the rest. Topics target readers, topics create your identity, and most importantly, the right topic will open the right doors. Choose yours carefully!
